This northern region's most notable area apart from its capital and largest city Genoa is the Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre are five villages on Liguria's magnificent rocky coastline.

Genoa

The infamous city of the sea is one of Italy's most awe-inspiring spots. The ancient port and Aquarium are its most notable features. Other interesting places are Christopher Columbus's childhood home and Il Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace, home of the medieval rulers of the Republic of Genoa).
