These couple of weeks we covered a bunch of themes. We discussed the major CSS principles, glanced over FTP clients and interactions with web servers, and, the fun part, discussed typography in general fonts in web design in particular.
Major CSS principles are Inheritance, Specificity, and Cascade. Those really matter when you start creating more and more complex stylesheets and are important to know.
FTP is an easy way to upload and manage your files on a server. Bill suggested a bunch of FTP clients fou us to use and I didn’t see there the FileZilla. I think it’s a cool one. It’s free, easy to use, and available on both mac and windows.
Fonts are hard to understand, especially for beginners. The web is hard to understand too, ESPECIALLY for beginners, since there’s so much to cover. FONTS on the WEB are… Easy. Surprising, isn’t it? Fonts in web design are really not that hard in general. They can be hard if you really want and try them to be, but the basics are easy. Just keep in mind the readability and the general aesthetics when picking a font. There is a terrific amount of ready solutions, by the way, if you struggle with them. Just find a pleasant-looking website that is similar to what you’re trying to do and find the similar typefaces on google fonts.
That’s what I learned this week.
