The first two weeks have been a breeze, with plenty of fun and enjoyment in new material. The HTML discoveries made in our resumes and the deep dives into the world of elements have been valuable learning experiences.
Having taken some Web Design and Interaction Design courses in the past, much of HTML is not wildly unfamiliar. However, perfection within any form of coding or design is not the expectation, requiring plenty of practice to solidify.
Starting our week off, I learned more about attributes, which we may apply to some tags to aid in customization when it comes to functionality. This was a significant learning opportunity, as the more complicated parts of HTML include sophisticated details we need to look out for (for example: customizing a form using an attribute that will determine the context in which to display the response received after submitting the form, such as “formtarget”). All in all, the deep dive proved to be useful in various aspects as our peers also contributed their own research.
Our sample resumes were also plenty of fun. Writing code and having multiple peers, as well as our professor, review it, served as a great refresher of basic rules and norms when it comes to HTML outlines. This bit introduced me to the <address> tag, used to semantically indicate contact information associated with content. I found this fascinating, as slowly but surely our class is introduced to new concepts we may have otherwise overlooked.
