Omg, it’s already week 12!

We’ve learned and practiced a lot in the past few weeks. I actually think that the last time I was here we hadn’t even started to build WordPress themes yet. Now, we are pros! jk

Well, we are definitely getting there, though! Especially if we keep practicing as we have been…

So, we have been working with the famous Llamas themed sites built by Bill (if there is one thing I won’t forget about this class is that Bill loves llamas lol). We used the HTML files that he created for the Llamas sites and the Very Basic Theme files to transform the three Llama sites into WordPress Themes. It was really good practice. And as with everything one learns, as we kept repeating the process, all of a sudden everything became much easier and seemed much simpler than in the beginning.

We also had a challenge last Tuesday. It involved creating our own theme and then using page builders (particularly Elementor) to build the “body” or “middle” of the site. Since the theme is essentially just the header and footer of the site (plus the loop that displays dynamic content that we can edit from WordPress), making our own theme was not as complicated as I initially thought. Yey! We could also use Bill’s HTML and CSS from the various themes he created for the Axis Gallery in Sacramento, which definitely makes things simpler. But… I still struggled with it. For some reason, the CSS wasn’t working properly and Bill had to help me make adjustments.

Then, on Thursday we had some more practice by transforming a very cool site, Concentric, into a theme. This theme was slightly more complex because not all of the pages used the same template. So, we had to create three templates and place the loop and other PHP functions in different places in our code.

And now it’s already week 12! Let’s see how much more we can learn in the next 4 weeks before the end of the semester 🙂
