Week 8 – Design Processes, Color Theory and CSS Grid

When I started working on the Midterm project, I was thinking of whether I should do fully designed mockup first or create content and start coding it.

The lecture about approaches to design for the web and levels of sophistication in that process answered this question. I decided to do a fully mocked up design first. It’s true that one of the disadvantages of this approach is that it takes longer, but at least, I can see what exactly I’m going to build.

Speaking of color theory, I learned about a cool website – coolors.co. Besides this website is the super fast color scheme generator, it has an awesome and useful option – color blindness. Another takeaway this week was learning more about CSS grid.

And the midterm project… Well, I realized that it’s challenging to me to combine a lot of cool techniques we’ve been learning throughout the semester together in one document, especially when it has to do with responsive design. Even though it’s a one-page site, the coding part seems to be a 1000+piece jigsaw puzzle to me. I’m curious if I’ll be able to put all the pieces together.
