Terminology is Everything.

We have done so much writing and research that not having the right word can make or break what you are trying to say or look for or code.   Having a name or word for something is power. Once you have the word you can learn how to use it and bend it to your will.

rule, selector, property, and value run thru my head while I do my assignments.  I have tons of notes with terms on little pieces of scratch paper attached to my displays and desk. It almost looks like a paper war zone. My goal was to become fluent in HTML and CSS.  I am not there but terminology is key. I need to think it thru my head and not just say that whatchamacallit, I need to think that is a “value”or I need a “property”.   I need to understand margin vs padding in my head in order to use the right one at the right time.  I cannot stop and pause thinking what is that thing I need to do here.   I search on my browsers all the time for little answers to easy questions and if I do not have the right words to type in the search bar an easy task becomes time consuming.   Fluency is more than just being able to think it and type it, it is also being able to pause, search, get answer and continue.  The world of website coding is too huge and complicated and evolving (and also revolting) too fast, so it is ok to stop and get answers.   Without the right terminology something easy becomes a challenge.

Here are two links to CSS and HTML glossaries.   These are simple and not in alpha order, but they are super useful to have handy because now and then I need a word and even better like to have the definition at the same time.
