Weeks 11 & 12: Sass, Parallax, and Bootstrap

We are almost at the finish line and I feel like I’ll definitely enjoy having a break! We have been covering so much in this class, and in the last two weeks we learned about a few more different techniques.

After finishing up the responsive challenges and reviewing Bill’s solutions in week 11, we dove into Sass. Sass is a CSS preprocessor that, to me, seems unnecessary. Some of its features look interesting at first, but they mostly took more time and effort than plain CSS would’ve taken me. Still, I do understand and recognize it as tool I should be aware of and even a bit experienced with, considering how popular it is.

In Week 12 we learned about the techniques behind Parallax and what “true” parallax actually is. I really enjoyed learning about parallax mainly because it made me aware of 3D properties I wasn’t familiar with. I’ve been searching for more information regarding those CSS properties and watching YouTube tutorials, and oh man, there’s so many cool animations and effects. We also talked about Bootstrap, which is not the most exciting tool, but can still be useful in speeding up development.

We’ll be focusing on Git and GitHub and our final projects in the following weeks.
