This week in class, I learned

This week in class, I learned a bit more about maneuvering WordPress and how to organize my content, though I definitely need to spend more time within WordPress before I feel totally comfortable and understand its processes.

I also learned how to transfer one blog’s content to another through an FTP client (Cyberduck) and phpMyAdmin. I wasn’t totally successful my first attempt, but I figured out where I went wrong.

My mistake was in my prefixes. After deleting the tables for my new website and importing my tables from my previous site, I ran the script, making sure my prefixes matched within my config_options file. My first attempt, I checked my prefixes in my config file after running my scripts, which is where I realized my error was.

During my first attempt, the second section of the script ran successfully, and after rerunning the script with my prefixes corrected, I had success with the first and last section. I ended up redoing the entire process however, and had success with all three sections of the script my first time through. Having to figure out where I went wrong and then redoing it completely helped me a lot because it helped me understand each step of the process and their purposes rather than just following along… I had to think and figure out where I actually went wrong and why.
