Everything Is Moving

“Finally! I got it to look perf- wait, why is everything all on this side now?…”

Oh boy, these challenges are tough sometimes especially when starting from scratch! Initially, when I looked at the mobile responsive design challenges for both the Sac Writer’s Group and the Zen Music Festival sites, I didn’t realize that we wouldn’t be provided with the CSS for it – only an image of the final version(s). I felt stuck at first, staring at the screen and unsure of where to start.

After consulting with my lovely Check-In partner for this class, I decided to start by breaking the site into “chunks” and work on the easiest ones first. Thankfully, the mobile versions for both projects were fairly simple in design so I was able to get a general outline fairly quickly. I did struggle a little bit with the header sections for both sites however. No matter what I did, I couldn’t quite figure out how to fit the image at the top of the page for the Sac Writer’s Group site and I couldn’t get the ticket button on the Zen Music Festival site to look like the provided photo. Despite these minor complications however, I was able to get the general structure of the site to match the provided photo and I’m proud of myself for being able to accomplish this!

Next on the responsive design challenges, we were asked to add media queries for the tablet and desktop versions of each site. Once again, I felt a little intimidated with the process since we weren’t provided with any code snippets, but I wasn’t too concerned since I had a good structure already with the mobile versions I generated the previous week. Similar to the mobile challenges, I struggled with getting the headers in both sites to behave, but I was able to get the general structure down alright. I ended up being delightfully surprised with how easy it was to create the media queries!

All this to say, I really enjoyed this weeks challenges despite the hiccups I encountered along the way. I love seeing progress in my skills, and I could really see that in this week’s challenges; I could never imagine myself being able to do these kinds of things a year ago and look at me now!

Looking forward to Sass in these next few weeks! 🙂
