Comprehending Flexbox

Flex and Flex Grid Layout are like Christmas gifts when it comes to CSS Layout.

Nevertheless, with so many property options, it’s like a kid in a candy store and is difficult for me to not to get confused about which one to use for the result I want.

While I appreciate and even enjoy the flex coding challenges, I consistently found when I checked code answers that my code was always more than what was necessary. It seems that I am making it harder than it is, for one, which in turn is making it difficult for me to remember how all the properties are going to behave. I know I tend to be anxious about learning something really well that I care a lot about; and I know I have anxiety about not getting it.

The challenges this week were interesting. At first, I was frozen because I was starting from scratch and seemed lost. Once I got started though, my main problem became choosing the right way to use flex to arrive at the correct layout. Like I said above, I generally found that I am making it more complicated than it needs to be. I did each of the exercises to the best of my ability before checking code, but I did get stumped on a few of the exercises for sure. Looking forward to much clearer understanding of how to use Flex.

I did check out a few of the links in Rachel Andrews article “Getting Started With CSS Layout”. I really enjoy her articles and find them very useful. In particular, I visited the site “https://flexboxfroggy.com/” and played with that for a bit. I like that site because it teaches in a very simple format which allows my OCD mind to keep it simple and not over-complicate what I’m learning.

(the above site "coming soon"; experiencing issues with the site going live). I've been walking a long, long road...and I have come an astoundingly long way. It would be easy to look around and not believe where I am today.
