Burning Man
Burning Man is festival in the middle of the Black Rock desert in Nevada. Every year, over 70,000 people descend onto the bleak dusty playa to set up a temporary city in celebration of creative freedom and expression. At Burning Man, the goal is to not only survive in the harsh climate of the dry desert but to thrive and make it into an epic experience for you and your fellow man. The desert is peppered with jaw dropping sculptures and interactive art pieces, some to make you laugh and some to make you cry.
My favorite thing to do at Burning Man is to hop on my bike and explore the sites and sounds. In addition to the large scale art pieces there are also camps set up by people just like you that are designed to bring out your inner wild child and help you to meet new people. Burning Man is a cashless economy that is driven by the gift giving of the people involved. While you are encouraged to be 'Radically Self Reliant' you are also showered with love from those around you in the form of free pancakes, tarot readings, melted ice cream or a cool handmade necklace.
A lot of people come to Burning Man for the epic party and it is all that and more. But I enjoy the celebration of art, creativity, and eating bacon and drinking mimosas from a zebra cup at sunrise. Burning Man is a temporary city that appears in the desert for one week and then when everyone leaves it is a blank canvas again until next year.
