The Yoga Lifestyle

Yoga is an ancient philosophy and discipline that has been written about, taught, and practiced since at least 2700 B.C., and its history is rich and extensive.

If you choose to begin the journey on the yogic path, it is likely you will study the ancient texts such as the "Patanjali's Yoga Sutras", "Bhagavad Gita", and the other Vedic texts since they are the soul of yoga practice.

The word 'yoga' comes from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj' which means to 'to join' or 'to unite'. To speak of yoga in terms of a physical practice with many well-known health benefits alone is to miss the point of taking the path. Ultimately, the purpose of yoga is to establish a harmonious mind-body relationship that leads to a greater awareness of one's true being.

In terms of the physical aspect of Yoga, there are many schools of yoga practice. There are at least 21 known yoga schools practiced. They vary in their focus with regard to 'asanas' (postures), and focus on mind practices such as meditation and chanting.

As I said earlier, there is so much to study and learn about this rich and beautiful philosophy. Before beginning your journey on the yogic path, I recommend reading more about the various schools to find a match that suits your specific personal goals.I invite you to explore the resources below and wish you a truly life-changing journey. ~Namaste.
