Kyoko "Kurojaki" Komatsu

"Kuro" for short, this young man is a prodigy police officer and canine handler. In an attempt to experience a somewhat normal life, he befriended a number of students while working at a local high school as a security detail. He enjoys helping these outcasts learn and grow as people.

One day, his life is turned upside down when he is attacked by an evil Dog Spirit. Angel, the queen of the Dog Spirits, appeared and also Marked him to lessen the effect of the evil Spirit's Mark. (A Spirit's Mark is a mechanism in which the transfer of Spirit DNA to a human causes them to adapt doglike traits and, under extreme circumstances, function as primitive mind control). This results in Kuro gaining black and white dog ears, a tail, and eyes that change color with his emotions (a Dog Spirit trait). He soon learns that he can sprout wings and fly, as well as transform into a full sized Dog Spirit.

Despite these extreme abnormalities, he does his best to stay positive and live his life the way he wants to.

Ishi Shouji

Ishi is a timid girl who has experienced many tragedies at the paws and jaws of Dog Spirits, causing her an extreme fear of dogs. She was on a journey with her brother when Angel saved her life from an evil Dog Spirit. Angel then brought Ishi to her ultimate destination: Hantou No Tokai. There, she tasks Kuro with helping Ishi overcome her fear.

Despite her past, Ishi always has a smile on her face. She struggles to accept and control her newfound Spirit abilities, but she never gives up.

Akiko "Akako" Yamane

"Aka" for short, this caring young woman was Kuro's first friend. Her family took him in when he became orphaned, and they've been living under the same roof ever since.

She works as a waitress in the cafe that she inherited from her parents, who died in a tragic accident when she was 14. She enjoys practicing martial arts and socializing with Kuro and his friends.

Kisho Murakami

Kisho is a daredevil. He's always trying to get his adrenaline fix. Whether it's driving his motorcycle too fast or climbing tall trees, he's always on the move.

A more humble attitude was forced upon him and his twin brother at a young age, however. Because their father is an alcoholic, they have been responsible for household chores such as grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning. This doesn't stop him from enjoying himself though. When he isn't revving engines, he's painting the exteriors of motor vehicles and gear.

Fun fact: he painted the motorcycles and helmets belonging to him and his brother.

Kwan Murakami

Unlike his twin brother, Kwan is very calm and collected. He can even be a bit shy at times. He gets annoyed when Kisho does something stupid, and tries to keep him out of trouble. But at the end of the day, nothing can get between these brothers.

Kwan is also a gifted mechanic. He works for his uncle in his shop, building and repairing motor vehicles.

Fun fact: Kwan built both his and his brother's motorcycles from scratch!

Haruhi Okano

Haruhi is fearless, making her a good match for Kisho the adrenaline junkie. The two sets of twins went to the same preschool and became good friends before the girls had to move away at the age of 10. They were all reunited 7 years later when the girls moved back to the city for good.

Haruhi is a performer at heart; her favorite pastime is dancing. She finds it difficult to express herself in any other way, but doesn't let that get in the way of her relationships.

Hana Okano

Hana is Haruhi's more reserved twin sister. Hana enjoys dancing just as much as her sister, but tends to favor ballet over hip hop. She is capable of being independent when she needs to be, but often chooses to stay in the company of the people she trusts. When she is reunited with Kwan, the two immediately bond, though their relationship turns out to be a wild ride.

Fun fact: Haruhi and Hana were born stradling midnight, meaning they officially have different birthdays.

Takushi "Otaku" Naito

Given the nickname "Otaku" by Akako, this smart young boy really does fall under the category of "nerd." The eldest if three siblings in an affluent family, he is currently a senior in high school at the age of 16.

Aside from math and science, his hobbies include reading manga and watching anime.

Fun fact: he has built a replica transforming mech suit from his favorite series entitled Mech Tech: Maskhunter.

Karlie Jamisen

Karlie is unaware of the fact that Japanese blood flows through her veins, yet she has an odd attraction to anime, manga, and other Japanese cultures. It could be because she lives in a city whose population is over 60% Japanese, but you never know.

Aside from Japanese culture, Karlie has also enjoyed getting to know a certain Japanese boy. In other words, she has a major crush on Otaku, who unfortunately, doesn't seem to know she exists. This doesn't stop her from dreaming though, and she couldn't be happier when she learns that they both have the same favorite manga series.

Angel is the formal queen of the Dog Spirit Realm. Her responsibilities include responding to Dark Spirit attacks on humans. She must outweigh the Dark Spirits' Marks with her own, then bring the Marked human to a safe place. This will most often be the Peninsula City of Hantou No Tokai. Angel helps those who have been Marked get through the traumatic experience and continue living relatively normal lives.

Echo is Angel's younger brother and the self-proclaimed King of the Dark Spirit Realm. He was exiled from the Dog Spirit Realm after he attempted to murder Angel and claim the throne for himself in order to wreak twisted revenge on the humans who killed his mate during the 1st InuVasion in the year 2042. After being exiled, he gathered an army of equally demented followers to conduct a much more devastating 2nd InuVasion in 2062.
