Silent Bench
While on the Sierra College campus one day, I noticed that despite the warm, sunny weather, the courtyard was fairly empty. There were many places in which students could enjoy the weather, such as this bench.
I was so intrigued by the curves of the bench, whose purpose was unfulfilled, that I chose to photograph it. This photograph is titled "Silent Bench" because it remained neglected on such a pleasant day.
Reflection into Another World
For this photograph, I wanted to capture the contrast between the barren dirt and the trees above. I used a mirror to juxtapose the two, and the border of the mirror emphasizes the divide.
Furthermore, the mirror holds a strong symbolic meaning. We use mirrors on a daily basis to ensure we are looking our best, and the greenery in the mirror makes the dirt feel more desolate.
The title of this piece, "Reflection into Another World," draws upon the aforementioned difference between the image inside the mirror and its surroundings, alluding to the trope of mirrors as portals to another world.
