On the downhill now. It’s been a busy two weeks. Wrapping up all my final projects and making my final website redesign for California Volunteers. I did learn something new regarding SASS and fun little trick with the navigation bar. I had not heard of SASS before so it was interesting to see how it worked and what the purpose of why developers use it.

Week 10 – Journal Entry
I got to learn 2 new things this week, GitHub and designing with angles. I’ve been wondering how to design a website with angles displayed in the background. I’ve been trying to figure it out on my own but wasn’t haven’t much luck. Thankfully several other people in class wanted to know how to do it was well, so Bill graciously throw that assignment into weekly assignment. Now I know how to design with angels! =)
Another cool thing I learned this week was GitHub. I have heard of the name GitHub before but had no idea what they did. I didn’t realize that it was a repository for websites so that multiple users could work on the same website. I never gave it much thought but it totally makes sense to have that available. Now I can say that I know how to use GitHub too! Learning so much from this class! =)
Journal Entry – week 10
This was a cool week since we got to take a field trip over to Click Spring. It was great having the opportunity to get a employers point of view. I had been debating whether it was worth my time and money to get my master’s degree in digital media. It was interesting to hear that he was looking for experience more than education.
As far as my mid-term, I’m happy with the way it turned out. I was pleased with layout and the appearances. The vibrant colors in the images really helped the page pop. However, this Sacramento Writer’s page is more challenging than I thought. Struggling with it right now! Having a brain fart right now, so I’m hoping it will all come back before the deadline.
Journey Entry – Week 7
Totally learned something cool this week. I was able to get the carousel image on my microsite to work for my midterm. Of course, I couldn’t haven’t done it without Bill’s help since I didn’t know jquery. I was also able to the background image on my microsite which I haven’t been able to do before either. This was a cool new feature that I got to learn from my fellow class mate.
It’s interesting to read my classmates post, because I see I’m not the only one having confident issues. When I’m in class I understand it and able to get the HTML/CSS to work, but as soon as I’m at home, nothing seems to work. Total buzz kill….and then I’m pulling my hair out for hours trying to figure out what I did wrong. Hopefully, by the end the semester I will start to feel better about my skills.
Journey Entry – Week 6
I felt better with my confidence in coding this week. I felt like more of it sunk in this week and I was able to make some sense of the codes and why they were doing what they were doing. I still have doubts when it comes to my coding ability though. Hopefully, I won’t feel this way by the end of the semester.
It was cool learning how to do the flipping tile trick. I really liked it, so I decided to incorporate it into my midterm project.
Journey Entry – Week 6
Hard to believe that we are half way through the semester already. I feel like I have learned a lot so far. I felt a little better this week in regards to my coding. I was really frustrated with the Concentric website and spent way more time then I wanted to on the project. The one plus side is by spending that much time doing trial and error, I was able to learn how the codes effected the page. The responsive design was a really cool project. I still feel like I have a lot more to learn. It would be really great that by the end of this class I knew how to push my website live so the public could view it. Hopefully, I will get a chance to learn how to do this by the end of the class.
Journal Entry – Week 5
This week was a struggle. I had a really hard time with the flex box and concentric project. I spent way more time on this project then I would have liked. I tried to do the projects without looking at the notes and realized that without a starting point, I seem to blank out and would feel lost. Once I looked at the code then it clicked. I’m not sure if it’s the anxiety of having to write code or just feeling confident in myself that I know how to code is what I’m struggling with.
Journal Entry – Week 4
I felt like I learned a lot this week. We covered floats and flexbox in CSS this week. We didn’t cover much of this when I took the beginning web design class. I feel like we covered so much material in such a short amount of time at the Art Institute. I feel like more of the information is soaking in this time around and I’m starting to understand what the code does when I code it into CSS.
Journey Entry – Week 3
This week was a challenge. I’m still having issues with the FTP site so it’s been frustrating to get my final project file loaded to Canvas. After many attempts, I think I finally figured it out. Hopefully, it will show up now and Bill can see it.
It was also hard getting back into the groove of writing CSS. It’s been almost a year since I took the beginner web class, so I forgot most of it. However, once I got back into writing CSS again, it all came back. =)
