About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Amanda Barnes. I am a disabled Artist living in the Sacramento region of California. Ever since I was a child I had dreamed of becoming an artist and that was all I wanted to do with my life. The past ten years of my life has been the hardest ten years of my life adjusting to my disability but I like to think that I am persevereing through the adversities that life throws at me. I am tremendously thankful to have my brains and my hands to create art and still do what I love most: creating art.

I started doing art at a very young age and my teachers and parents noticed that I was pretty above average when it came to drawing. Throughout my schooling as a child I continued to harness my gift with the help of art instructors in art classes in middle school and high school. I then left high school and attended California College of the Arts in San Francsico for 2 years. During this time in July of 2011 while living in the bay area I was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk. The driver was never found and I sustained a complete T/12 Spinal Cord Injury and became completely paralyzed from the waist. The doctors told me that I would have less than a 5% chance of ever walking again. Ever since then I have been set on proving them wrong, because one day technology will advance to the point that I might walk again one day with the help of that technology! Since then I have continued to learn, adapt, go to school, and continue educatiing myself in the arts.

In my education at Sierra College thus far I have learned the basics of graphic design, web design, typography, photography, and jewelry making among many other areas of interest, and i am also a naturally gifted fine artist specializing in acrylic painting. I hope that one day I can land a career and be able to continue creating amazing art that speaks to me and helps better the world in a positive way. I am not a quitter and I never give on my dreams, even when faced with numerous hardships in life

Right now I continue to sell my work in order to help sustain me while I continue on to acheive my bachelors degree in Graphic design. I aso sell my work in order to fundraise for things like specialized exercise based physical therapy and dog training for my beautiful service dog in training, Sophie.
