A single dot on a white background

This is a Vertex. What? You don't see it? Well, that's becuase a Vertex doesn't actually take up any space in the real world or in the virtual world. In fact, the only reason that you can see a dot at all is because the 3d modeling software makes a visible selector to represent Vertices (the plural of Vertex). Although a Vertex on it's own doesn't do anything, when you create more and link them together, they're capable of amazing things!

Two dots with a line in between

When 2 Vertices join together, they create a Line. Although it may look visible to us from the picture, this is once again the 3d modeling software helping us out by giving us visual selectors. A Line is just as invisible as a Vertex.

An orange rectangle

Hooray! We finally have something that is visible! 4 Vertices (or 2 lines) makes a Quad. A Quad is visible, but is 2 dimensional. If viewed from the side, you will not be able to see it.

The Basics

An orange cube

If a Quad is Extruded then we have a cube. Finally a 3d object! Although a cube is a very simple shape, it can be changed and expanded upon to make even the most complex 3d models!

A simple 3d modeled ax head

Here we can see how you can expand upon a cube to make simple shapes, such as this Ax head. This was simply a cube that was cut and then extruded outwards. The commands for cutting and extruding will change depending on the 3d modeling software used, but the commands are always included and are often very simple to execute.
