All About Amelia
Hello! I am Amelia, the creator of Thrifty-Upcycles! I have been passionate about sewing ever since I started in 2015 (I was 9 years old I believe). I started off sewing quilts through my 4-H Club, then moved on to up-cycling clothes in my teens. For the longest time all I had was my mothers ancient sewing machine that could barely do a straight stitch. If you have a similiar story, don't be deterred from sewing! I was able to acomplish so many projects on that machine and it made me come up with some pretty useful techniques. Now, of course, I have a modern machine with all the fancy gadgets. Like my machines, I have also grown and now realize the importance of up-cycling clothing. This process allows you to fix clothes you love and make them fit you in a way you love! Up-cycling, as well, saves you some dough and saves those old clothes from filling landfills and polluting the enviroment.
The Goals for Thrifty Up-Cycles
Thrifty Up-Cycles was born out of passion for sewing and consideration for the planet. Not only is the ability to up-cycle your clothing beneficial to your bank account, it should be a practice in every persons life. Clothing started to become mass produced in the 19th century and since then the apparel market has managed to produce 10% of the worlds carbon emmissions. Carbon emissions are the cause of global warming but that's not the only way clothing hurts the planet. 20% of water pollution worldwide is caused by the fashion industry as well as 92 million tons of clothing are put in landfills each year. That would take 9.2 million garbage trucks to move! The goals for Thrifty Up-Cycles consist of inspiring people to learn a skill that can better the planet as well as educate the people to have compassion for the planet. The planet is hurting due to many factors but fashion is something any person can control. By understanding and practicing sustainable fashion we can send a message to the fashion industry that we won't stand for negative treatment of the planet any longer.
