{"id":395,"date":"2019-05-10T03:23:29","date_gmt":"2019-05-10T03:23:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/appliedartand.design\/lj\/?p=395"},"modified":"2019-08-19T19:33:35","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T19:33:35","slug":"ada-compliance-is-not-a-mystery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/appliedartand.design\/lj\/2019\/05\/10\/ada-compliance-is-not-a-mystery\/","title":{"rendered":"ADA Compliance is not a Mystery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As of January 2018, updated standards require all federal agencies and contractors to create web content accessible to all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>I did a bit of research and found some basic steps to asses a site for ADA compliance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><\/li><li>Review the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0). A lot of content but I scanned the overview list.<\/li><li>Conduct an audit of the site using a <a href=\"https:\/\/wave.webaim.org\/\">WAVE Web Accessibility Tool. <\/a>Plug in the url of your site and it tags areas of issue. This was very helpful to see what I was facing.<\/li><li>Make sure your site has alt tags on all images, videos, etc., describing the content.<\/li><li>Review the site&#8217;s styles and elements, such as and make sure styled content is readable and legible.<\/li><li>Utilize writing for best usability keeping content simple and scannable. Use text h tags to establish hierarchy of importance.<\/li><li>Audit the site&#8217;s code and bring it up to date.<\/li><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping a site compliant is not a one-time fix.
