But me, I am happy going along with the flow most of the time. This year at the Addys Awards Gala I thought it would be fun to do a little dress up. In past years, it was a thing \u2013 people really got into it. This year the theme was decades, exploring advertising throughout the decades of the local club. And since all this year\u2019s promotion was centered around a very strong retro 50s and 60s styling I thought that would be a fun genre to dress up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>I found a fun early 70s print coat\/dress that I wore over a solid black top &amp; skirt \u2013 not way out there as far as fashion but fun. I arrived early and helped hang up the last of the print ads for guests to review and choose the People\u2019s choice piece. I then reviewed all the pieces hanging up as guests arrived. About 30 minutes into the social hour I realized there wasn&#8217;t any other unique fashions in the dress up category. I was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable but thought maybe a few would arrive. Nope! By the time dinner started I was still the only one in retro fashion. Can I crawl under the table now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As much as I kept telling myself it really doesn\u2019t matter, it did. I felt like an idiot all night. But, dress aside, it was a great gala, was well organized and there was some fun challenges for the guests. And I was a part of the entertainment, sticking out like a sore thumb. I learned it is good to go out on a limb sometimes but maybe check first how far out on that limb to go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people would love to stand out in a crowd.
