About Belarus
Belarus, officially the Republic of Belarus, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest.
Minsk, the capital of Belarus, is the largest and most developed city with a population of 2 million.
Some interesting facts:
- Fifteen Nobel Prize winners have Belarusian roots. The most recent one, Svetlana Alexievich, got Nobel Prize in literature in 2015.
- Ralph Lauren, an American famous fashion designer, Kirk Douglas, a well-known actor, producer, director, and author, and Marc Chagall, a talented artist of the 20th century, have Belarussian roots.
- Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park is the largest ancient forest in Europe.

The core of the national cuisine is potato – over 300 dishes cooked with this vegetable! For this reason, Belarusian are usually called “Bulbashi” (from the Belarusian bulba, which means potato), meaning the people who eat a lot of potato.
Belarus is a “country of blue lakes” and fascinating and untouched landscapes. Over 40% of the territory is forests. You can visit National Parks, some of which are supported by UNESKO, and enjoy sceneries. Or you can just escape from daily routine and go fishing or gathering berries and mushrooms in a forest.
