Eastern Sierra Camping

Day 1

I arrived at Kennedy Meadows campground (approximately 7000 ft) along Sonora Pass, near the heart of the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, along with 3 of my closest friends and one hell of an adventure dog. 2 cars packed to the brim with camping and hiking gear to last us several days in the High Sierras.

To be completely honest, at this point, I didn't know what to expect. I had very little expierience in this part of the mountains and really had done very little but surface level research on the area. Little did I know what I had in store for me.

Day 2

We woke up early the next morning after heading to bed early the night before due to the exhaustion from the tedious work of setting up camp.

We had little idea of what we were going to do with our first full day in the midst of the trees, but this was quickly resolved as we all piled into the car and continued a little farther up the pass that we had come in on to reach our campground. It quickly became apparent that this was the right decision.

Shortly after our campground the road began to steadily climb higher into the midst of the peaks of the Sierras. The snow became more abundant on the ground (this was mid-June), the temperature began to drop and the landscape become more stark but ever more beautiful. The longer we spent on the road, the more you could feel the electricity of excitement in the car.

Eventually we rounded a corner on the windy road, and found ourselves in the crutch of an incredible valley between peaks (we are at about 10,000 feet at this point). The beauty was too much to ignore so we pulled off the road to take a moment and take in the landscape.

Etc...
