UX/UI OPP APP

Project Overview

My goal was to build an app that met the needs of the people that wanted and/or needed to barter for services or goods.

The app has been designed in precise straight forward way to reach as many people in the shortest amount of time. I found that people who barter are not typically ones that sit around on their phones all day. This is my focus.

I hope that by creating this app it will give more people opportunities to get a greater amount of services and goods by knocking out the middle man, which would be a job or career.

Project Research

My project research included speaking with people that currently wanted services. One wanted a pedicure but she was a stay-at-home mom that had a small business in candle making. She loved the idea of trading her goods for their services.

I also designed personas. One of the people I believe that benefit from using my app is a man that is building his home and needs an electrician but with a tight budget, he has more time than money.

App Design

As stated earlier I wanted a simple app and I also wanted an app that was clean and precise in its look. I chose gray and teal for cleanliness and neutrality. I choose to design the landing page with 3 buttons. Find, Offer and Sign Up.

OPP app offers the users an entry point to offer or find services. This gives a new user the ability to "browse" to see what others are offering that they may have never thought of and also what they can find to barter for. People are creative and I have given that space for them.

Tasks For Users

Tasks include signing up, offering services by location, reaching out, and completing a barter.

Step by step the OPP app takes the user through the steps to locate, choose, and reach out for bartering services.

While find and offer lead to essentially the same database of services, using a find or offer heading gives the user confidence that the app knows the user's intent.

  1. Find
  2. Log in
  3. Search
  4. reach out

Usability Testing & Further Development

As testing continued, there was a concern about reaching out to possible barters. This created a need for the OPP app to have a level of protection and security.

It was decided that the OPP app would protect and encrypt the contact until both parties agreed. After that, they could choose to leave the app and connect further.

Summary

I believe that the app can be a successful way to connect for those that choose to barter their way through life. I am not sure how creative users may be. I hope that it would be a way for those in need that have awesome skills can get opportunities for more services and potentially more opportunities to work and/or barter.

While OPP app is nowhere near ready for launch it has been a great opportunity for me to construct.

I learned a great deal about the UX process and the time and energy that goes into a successful launch. I can see now how apps can fail to succeed without good UX and development with a robust team.
