The app addresses equity issues by focusing on marginalized communities such as single parents, first-time job seekers, and those seeking wage transparency.
By offering features like a wage progression tracker and skill-building workshops, job counseling, and incentives, BrightHire provides tools to bridge employment gaps and create pathways for sustainable career growth.
The design process began with an analysis, comparing BrightHire to apps like Indeed and Goodwill Job Connection. These platforms lacked specific features addressing career progression and mentorship, which proved a gap in the market.
Feedback from user personas, including Brianna (a single mother) and Jayden (an entry-level worker), emphasized the need for clear navigation, wage transparency, and accessible training. This research informed decisions on app functionality and user experience.
BrightHire's design evolved through several revisions. Initial wireframes featured basic navigation, which was refined based on usability feedback. Users prioritized ease of access to key features like "My Jobs" and "Skill-Building."
Major changes included enhancing visual hierarchy and improving task flows. The app now features navigation menus, progress trackers, and dynamic visuals that guide users seamlessly through tasks.
BrightHire enables users to complete essential tasks for their career development. Key tasks include creating a professional profile, uploading resumes, and applying for jobs. Users can also track their application progress through the "My Jobs" dashboard, access skill-building modules, and connect with BriteHire mentor/coaches for personalized guidance.
Usability testing with five participants provided valuable information into navigation challenges and areas for improvement. Users found the wage progression tracker innovative and motivating.
Planned updates include improving onboarding instructions and enhancing navigation labels for better user flow.
Working on BrightHire reinforced the importance of user-centered design. This project proved the value of addressing real user needs and adapting designs based on feedback. The most rewarding part was creating a product with the potential to make a real impact on users' lives.
