Location
I know it may not seem like location matters at first, but its probably the most important aspect in Character Design to consider when starting off as a beginner. There will be many times when you have to design background characters for a setting or scene. If a character fits the setting you create or a setting that is laid out it makes it easier to brainstorm ideas and concepts for a character design.
Place Of Origin relates to the idea of location also, because if you are designing a significant character they may have distinct attributes. For example, cities and towns are filled with people doing different things. Each person, no matter how big, or small is living a life. You may draw a kid with a baseball bat walking down the street coming from a game while a businessman running late for work in a suit runs by the kid. Characters may not always get the chance to speak so understanding the setting of location and what designs work is extremely important in the long term.
