When creating a character it's important to remember the influences it draws from and also what different traits may mean when adding them to the character.These traits can be what set the character's impression ,and may give a glimpse into the personality of the character before being finalized.

Think about what clothes in real life can say about our interests and passions. Depending on the mood you want to give a character design clothing will highlight some aspects. Look into fashions both old and modern and see what ideas work for your design. Look into fashion magazines and different trends to diversify ideas.

At the end of day you never know how different fashions may interest you or others. Just make sure there's always a bit of focus in the base of the clothing design. Each choice should only complete or build off the base.
