Introduction to Web Design: Course Project Directory

Welcome to my course project directory!

The following projects have been created as a way to explore front-end Web Design and Development

Main Course Projects

  • My First Page

The "My First Page" project was done in order to introduce us to the basics of coding a web page. This ranged from basic file management to introducing basic HTML and CSS practices.

The project covered meaningful file management, setting up Dreamweaver, introducing the coding process and how critical fine details and specificity are, practicing good coding habits like indenting, linking and displaying an image, and saving/reviewing/uploading documentation of the project.

For me, the most notable thing about the project was watching the web page go from nothing to something. It was cool to see how such small changes could make the web page pop. Overall, it was a cool and fun experience to see and do.

  • Squint Studio Build-Along

The Squint Studio Build-Along project is used to further our skills and learn about the multitude of different aspects of both HTML and CSS. The making of the page is a deep dive, covering the full extent of basic Wed Design knowledge.

The project has multiple parts and takes place over about a 6 week period. Each week is spent on a different part of the project, and dives deeper into the basic coding tools we explored in the "My First Page" project. This ranges from learning new formatting strategies with CSS, learning how to create and link a CSS file, linking to other pages of a website, etc.

So far, the project itself has been fun but challenging in some aspects. It's easy to make a mistake or miss a mistake in the moment when there are so many little details you have to keep track of. I'm personally not the best at managing a lot of small details, but so far I have had a pretty good track record. It has also been interesting and engaging to learn the small minute changes you can make to a website using CSS.

  • Cordelia Michaud: Illustrator and Graphic Designer

This final assignment for this class was to create a website detailing anything we wanted. For this project, I decided to create a website that would act as my portfolio and a small about me page.

This project tested my understanding of everything I learned throughout the class, and I think I can say that I was able to fully understand and put the techniques I learned to use. There were some smaller details I never got around to adding, such as a back to top link at the end of every section, but overall I enjoy how this website turned out.

Truthfully, I would want to learn more about Web Design so I can make some adjustments to the page before I actually used this as a portfolio website, but I still enjoy how it turned out.
