About V.A.
Venerable Abomination is a web-comic that I'm currently developing. I also refer to this comic as V.A. for short. This is the first comic that I'm seriously creating and it's in a very early stage of development. V.A. takes place in a Scifi-Fantasy setting where a young man is born through strange methods for the purpose of dethroning a tyrant. But once his purpose is fulfilled, what's left for him then?
Let's Talk About V.A.
Main Characters of V.A.
Yora Norzalim
Yora is the main character of VA. He was born when three high-ranking officials came together a hatched a plan to rebel against their emporer. Those three officials were Lyrin, Deira, and Lupali. With the help of Lupali's magic they were able to create a plant womb that would grow a child that held pieces of each of their DNA. Due to this unprecidented birth Yora was born as a hybrid of three different species, although he takes after Deira the most. As such it was decided that the three adults would take turns raising Yora and teaching him so that he'd be successful in his mission to usurp the emporer.
Pholirei AKA "ReiRei"
Pholirei is one of the few friends that Yora makes in his adolescence. Pholirei lives with a small family and helps them take care of their flower shop. Upon meeting with Yora, Pholirei comes to deeply admire him and eventually becomes the only one to be really concerned for Yora's situation. Beyond their involvment with the flower shop and Yora, not much is known about where they come from or who they really are.
Micah Enrel
Micah is another friend of Yora's. Originally they where only Pholirei's friend, but Pholorei introduced Micah and their other friends to Yora. At first Micah was wary of Yora, but would come to respect Yora after having a short spar that Yora won. For Micah hand-hand combat, martial arts, and fighting are his passion. Micah uses his magical talents to boost his skill and strength in combat, but due to a magic failure, he gained an extra pair of arms. While the process of obtaining these arms was traumatic for Micah, he views the extra arms as an advantage.
Deira
Deira is one of Yora's fathers, and is the second in line to lead his people, his Elder sister being their current leader. Deira is a kind and simple man while stubborness is his key flaw. Deira tries to make the best desicions for his people and family, he often gets a bit too caught up in his personal feelings for various situations. This was the case for Yora's birth, since he normally wouldn't condone the birth of a child that would only be raised up as a weapon, but since he was madly in love with Lyrin he agreed to participating in the plan with the hopes that Lyrin would forget about hs plan and decide to raise Yora with him as a family, of course things didn't pan out that way. Deira would be the one to raise Yora through his infancy and early childhood, while he was strict when teaching Yora to fight and hunt, he was an extemely loving father that liked to dote on Yora often, making him Yora's favorite parent.
Lyrin Norzalim
Lyrin is the reigning monarch of his kingdom of elves and is Yora's other father. While Lyrin was the one to plan Yora's birth his opinion of Yora and Deira changed drastically not long after Yora was finally born. While returning Deira's affections, the responsibility of ruling a nation alone took it toll and Lyrin would have to abandon their relatioship, Deira's attempts to get back together only making Lyrin loose respect for him. Meanwhile, during Yora's incubation Lyrrin would suffer from multiple magic failures that would take even more of a toll on his mind, warping his initially noble plans into something far crueler. Lyrin would be the one to raise Yora through his adolesence and puberty, and would foster a complicanted relationship with Yora.
Lupali
Lupali is Yora's only mother. She hails from a species of plant people that excell in life based magic. But as a plant she does'nt truly understand the concept of motherhood and when Yora fails to fit in on her home planet, she leaves him to fend for himself on his own. This would be where Yora would come into adulthood.
Concepts
Setting
VA takes place in a soloar system that's made up of four planets orbiting a small sun. The planet closest to the sun is where the emporer resides, and is a place of extrordinary people and magic. The planet second closest to the sun is where Yora was born and is the home of Lupali and her species of plant people with their unique life magic and beautiful scenery. The third planet is the home of Lyrin Norzalim, and his people, commonly refered to as elves. On this world magic is natural, but elves struggle to controll it, so they often suffer from magic failures that can cause curses, mutations, and eventually death should they push themselves too far. The fourth and final world is the home of Deira and his people, this planet is so far from the sun that it is constantly in a state of darkness. The lands of this world are harsh and cold, as such Deira's people have no eyes and are quite large and thick in order to combat these conditions. These four worlds are linked together through a form of naturally occuring magical phenomena that allows them to travel between each world at certain times of the year. This solar system also happens to reside above a place called 'The Pit' where heinous and unimagiable creatures reside waiting to consume whoever falls in.
Magic
Magic in VA is complex and infinite, exsisting in many forms and filling various purposes. The magic that links the worlds, is the same magic that the Elves are able to tap into, this form of magic is considered natural or wild magic and it is powerful, but also unpredictable and hard to understand. Life magic is the same magic that the plant people are able to use, it's highly specialized and requires much practice and sacrifice to be able to use correctly. Finally, there is unnatural magic, this is the magic that the emporer and those resideing on his planet use, it's strange and manufactured with every individual spell having a specific use.
