The Wind Rises Synopsis
DESCRIPTION
The Wind Rises (2013) follows Jiro, who dreams of becoming a pilot, but due to poor eyesight, must settle on becoming an aircraft engineer. His innovations are celebrated amongst his peers and sought after for developing state-of-the-art Japanese fighter planes, which eventually lead him to design a famous WWII fighter aircraft.
Jiro falls in love with a woman battling an illness and must face the challenges of pursuing his dreams and tending to the one he loves. His ambition comes at the ultimate cost in his personal life, as well as creating a tool of war that will affect many others.
CHARACTERS
- Jirō: A brilliant aircraft designer who once had a dream of flying planes, but due to his poor eyesight, vows to design innovative planes for those who can pilot aircrafts.
- Naoko: A young woman whose health is in decline and who eventually becomes Jirō’s wife. Naoko’s fate becomes the cost of Jiro’s ambition.
- Giovanni Caproni: An Italian aeronautical engineer who appears in Jirō’s dreams.
- Honjō: Jirō’s aviation colleague and friend.
- Kurokawa: Jirō’s short-tempered yet supportive supervisor.
