Castle in the Sky Synopsis
DESCRIPTION
Popularly known as a steampunk adventure based on advanced technological aesthetics, Castle in the Sky (1986) follows Pazu, a young and courageous boy who rescues Sheeta, a young girl who floats out of the sky. Sheeta wears a glowing pendant around her neck, one that has magical powers and holds the key to the floating city of Laputa, a mysterious and ancient city filled with secrets.
Together, they embark on a perilous journey chased by pirates, military forces, and a shady government agent, who all want the glowing pendant for themselves. Along the way, they meet a gentle robot who helps them to accomplish their mission.
CHARACTERS
- Pazu: Pazu is obsessed with proving the existence of Laputa, inspired by his late father’s photographs. He meets Sheeta, who because of her connection to Laputa is able to help Pazu find and reveal the secrets within the floating city of Laputa.
- Sheeta: Sheeta wears a mysterious glowing pendant that is tied to Laputa, making her the target of all who seek the floating city’s secrets.
- Captain Dola: Dola is the leader of the sky pirate gang, who at first seeks the pendant for herself, and eventually becomes protective toward Sheeta, helping her to achieve her goals while sacrificing her own.
- Colonel Muska: Muska is obsessed with harnessing Laputa’s power to make himself more powerful at the expense of others.
- Laputa Robots: Large ancient machines left behind by the Laputans. They symbolize the duality of technological innovation and nature.
