Mothman was first reported in late 1966 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in the paper, "Point Pleasant Register." Mothman has been an icon for cryptozoology ever since.
After its first sighting, others in WV began reporting sightings as well. Its appearance is described as a "large flying man with ten-foot wings" with eyes that "glowed red" by two couples who claim to have seen it. According to Newell Partridge, Mothman's eyes reflect light similar to a bicycle reflectors.
In 1967, the Silver Bridge in Point Pleasant collapsed, killing 46 people in total and people suspsected that Mothman was associated. Some people believe that Mothman is an omen for bad things to come.
John Keel wrote "The Mothman Prophecies," which details the connection between Mothman and the Silver Bridge, as well as other supernatural events. Point Pleasant now holds an annual festival dedicated to Mothman.

A more obscure cryptid are the Fresno Nightcrawlers. There have been two sightings of these creatures, first spotted in Fresno, California, in 2014 by an ex-marine and his wife. He says he saw an "alien" run across the road and into the woods.
Fresno Nightcrawlers were again spotted in Yosemite Park, California. Teo Nightcrawlers were spotted by a secuity camera, showing white, long-legged creatures with small heads.

Said to be found in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey, the Jersey Devil is a well-known cryptid. The Jersey Devil has a horse-like head, goat-like horns, bat wings, cloven hooves, and a tail resembling a demon's tail.
According to legend in the 1700's, the Jersey Devil, or the "Leeds Devil" came into existence after a woman called "Mother Leeds" cursed her 13th child to be the devil. After the child was born, it transformed into the Jersey Devil, screaming and flapping its wings, it fled into the woods.
Over the years, there have been many reported encounters with the Jersey Devil, and most notably in 1909. Footprints were spotted, gunshots fired on the Jersey devil, and even claims of attacks were reported. Schools closed and hunters went out searching for the creature, though they had no success.

Another more obscure, but still iconic cryptid is the Dover Demon. Spotted in Dover, Massachusettes in 1977, William Bartlett reported seeing an alien-like creature on Farm Street. Described by Bartlett, the Dover Demon has large, glowing eyes and "tendril-like fingers." The same night the Dover Demon was spotted again, and once again during the following night by another teenager.
