About the Artist
The Beginning
Hello, I am MacKenzie Cordova, also known as “Kenz”! I am 19 and in college working towards my Bachelors in Fine Art. I’ve been doing art since as long as I can remember-from painting the walls with spaghetti as a baby to drawing the famous La Pieta by Michelangelo as part of an AP European History project. I have always loved to create and cannot think of a time in my life where I did not.
Goals
Apart from drawing and painting, I also make films and dabble in graphic design, photography, and creative writing. My ultimate goal is to work in the film industry as a Conceptual Artist/Visual Developer. I want to create the look of all the sets, costumes, and characters within film. My end goal is to direct and potentially write a film for Pixar Animation studios.
My Work
My work contains several different styles, mediums, subject matters, and themes as I am working to learn as much as I can about art. However, much of my work lately has been in pen and ink. Things that you might see in my work include skulls/skeletons, juxtapositions of life and death, animals and nature, and hands. Yes, hands. I like drawing them! One section of my work that many know me by is my Labilis Horis Series (Fleeting Hours), featuring a hummingbird in a gas mask. Hummingbirds are one of the most common subjects in my artwork. Click

Other Inspirations
Apart from art, I love to rock climb. I have been lucky enough to experience hiking and adventuring in National Parks since before I could walk. I was born and raised in New Mexico, a fantastic place to appreciate nature and culture. I was introduced to rock climbing there and joined a competitive climbing team. I have been climbing for 8 years, and it has been a huge part of my life. This has certainly influenced my work, as I have gained an appreciation for nature and it’s vast scope of shapes, forms, and colors.
