The Appreciation of Cookies

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a baked, small, and sweet cake that is served as a snack or desert. In other countries, cookies are alternatively called Biscuits (England), Koekje (Dutch), Galletas (Spain), or even Keks/Plätzchen (German).

How are they made?

Starting from the base of dough, the common ingredients to make cookies are consisted of flour, sugar, liquid, and fat. There are three main stages to making cookie dough is the creaming, liquids, and dry ingredients. Creaming of the dough is the process of using ingredients like salt, eggs, and baking powder in order to entrap the fat to create the fluffy texture. The liquid stage adds water to the dough in order to absorb so it can have consistent results. Lastly, the use of dry ingredients like flour is supposed to prevent a gluten matrix from forming so it can result in a short bite (ease of chewing) for the cookie.

That is just the base of the cookie. The main attraction is the extra ingredients. Whether it be added with chocolate chips, peanut butter, or MnMs, there are many choices to determine what kind of cookie that is made. Added ingredients are not the only factors in what the cookie turns out to be, there are also different shapes and forms that changes the appearance of the cookie. Examples of those would consist of Doughnut shaped, Whoopie Pie, and Biscotti types of cookies. Cookies are a very versitile type of food that can be altered in many ways that everybody could enjoy.
