BANDEROLE

Banners of the Brave

Parchment Scrolls

Banderole, from the midieval French for Banner, typically flew on Ships and Kights alike as a represetion of heraldic orgins and achievements. Meanwhile, midieval art depicted speech similarly with a small banner emanating from the speaker. These pieces of parchment twisted, curled, and furrowed from the speaker's mouth.

Consider, the patterns of the parchment may add additional meaning the speaker's message. The artist may convey tone, importance, or context to the text unexpressed on the parchment that may not be communicated via the text alone. Perhaps the scrolls are curled and uncurled to demonstrate the message spoken has been understood within the painting. Perhaps the twist of parchment may describe a savage insult or mischevious message sinsisterly spoken outloud for all to hear in front of the victim in the painting.

However, I am interested in how the Banderole may be applied to modern versions of hypertext, and how it may arise in the future
