Based in Sacramento, California, Jacob Allen is an independent alternative and soul artist and songwriter. Jacob started writing poems in highschool, which evolved into songs in early 2017. RnB, Soul, Hip-Hop, Lofi and Alternative genres influenced Jacobs stylism and wordplay. Daniel Caesar was a huge influence in the instrumentals, along with vocal stylism from BROCKHAMPTON, and inflection by JID. He started to record and create short instrumentals with just an iPad, posting the lofi beats on Soundcloud. After buying a microphone and interface in the Summer of 2017, Jacob created his first EP, “Jacob Allen EP”, containing 4 soul-infused tracks, with the guitar being evident throughout. Posted on Soundcloud, Spotify, and Apple Music, the EP gained a total of 4,000 plays within several weeks. Not only 3 months after, Jacob Allen released a single titled “Father, Forgive Me”, in which Jacob experiments with vocal manipulation and hip-hop elements. Jacob Allen continues working on and writing music while focusing on attaining his bachelors.
Father, Forgive Me is an RnB/Hip Hop single, focusing on falsetto and deepened vocals, along with an eerie guitar. “Father, Forgive Me” tells of a never-ending struggle of faith and relationships, along with cultural success and its repercussions. Jacob experiments with stretching his vocals to the limit and flipping samples and beats to create conflicting feelings within a single track.
Jacob Allen EP is Jacob Allen’s first officially released EP, retaining alternative and soulful roots with RnB fusion. The EP begins with the instrumental buildup, “Hiraeth”, and ends with the peaceful, serene ending, “Koinonia”, in which Jacob reflects and closes on his time of spiritual fulfillment and absolute understanding in Okinawa, Japan. In just 4 tracks, “Jacob Allen EP” withholds elements of distrust, brokenness, unfaithfulness, and fear, yet is coupled with hope, understanding, and completeness.
